Monitoring visit of the „Group III-N- (As) alloy material and low-dimensional heterostructure for high efficiency solar cells in intermediate band” - N - IBCell
The representatives of the National Contact Point and the National Authority for Scientific Research and Innovation as Program Operator for the RO 14 „Research in priority sectors" financed through EEA Grants 2009-2014 were performed on November 5, 2015 a monitoring visit for project „Group III-N- (As) alloy material and low-dimensional heterostructure for high efficiency solar cells in intermediate band" financed under the program. The promoter of this project is the National Institute for Research and Development in Microtechnologies - IMT Bucharest INCD.
The project objective is manufacturing of the solar cells in intermediate band with high efficiency (IBSCs) of 63.2%, having 50% above the limit for standard solar cells. Another advantage of these IBSS is their simplicity and hence their low production costs, because they require only a single p-n junction.
During the monitoring visit were presented the main results achieved to date corresponding the activities that are being finalized:
- Increasing treatment and material characterization GA1-xInxNyAs1-y / GaAs for the crystalline network, substrate and bandgap, having properties electrical and optical significantly upgraded/improved, corresponding to obtain high conversion efficiency when integrated into a solar cell in intermediate band.
- The design, improved, processing and characterization IBSCs containing alloy material GaIn NAs/GaAs engineered giving photocurrents improved with minimal falling in photovoltage.
